Tennis Picks 2014 (March 1st)

We are now just days away from the first Masters tournament of the season at Indian Wells and we are now in a position where two of the tournaments being played this week are going to be coming to a close on Saturday.

It has been a very strong week for the picks and is one of those weeks that you just don't want to see draw to a close as four straight days with winning picks means the season total is also going to be in a very good place despite what has been an up and down first two months of the season.

The bottom line is you have to treat weeks like this the same as when you have a bad week as that is the way it goes over the course of an eleven month season. By keeping an even keel and trying to see what has been working and what hasn't is the only way improvements can be made to ensure this will be another season with a winning record at the end of it.

Roger Federer v Tomas Berdych- Three Sets Played: I am not surprised the layers are not separating these two players by huge prices as both Roger Federer and Tomas Berdych fans would have strong arguments as to which of their players will win the title here in Dubai.

It may be Federer that owns the 11-6 head to head record between the players, but Berdych is 5-3 in the last 8 matches between them and came from a set behind to beat Roger Federer in the Semi Final here twelve months ago.

You have to like the way Berdych has been playing over the last month and he has been serving effectively to think he will cause problems for Federer, even if the latter brings the ultra-aggressive tennis to the court that disrupted Novak Djokovic in the final two sets of the Semi Final that was played on Friday.

Matches between these two have generally been tight and competitive and it only takes a point or two either way to decide who wins the sets. I am just finding it hard to believe that either player would wilt away in this Final and I have a feeling it will produce a deciding set for the title here.

I can make a strong argument for both players winning so I will just keep the pick simple and back this match to go the distance.
