Wimbledon Day 12 Picks 2014- Women's Final: Eugenie Bouchard v Petra Kvitova (5th July)

Maybe it has been because the tournament has coincided with the World Cup, but Wimbledon seems to have come and gone very quickly this year with the two Finals to be played this weekend. The first of those will be the women's Final and both look the perfect way to end the third Grand Slam of the season.

After a pretty good couple of weeks for tennis, Saturday follows the trend of this time last week and rain is expected to have this match played under the roof of Centre Court. I don't think that will give either player an edge in this Final, but I would bet my bottom dollar that Roger Federer will be hoping a 'rain dance' can keep the weather in the vicinity of SW19 for at least an extra twenty-four hours.

One piece of terrible news that I did hear on Friday was that Victoria Duval has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma- it does mean Duval will take some time off the court even though she showed great heart and determination to continue with her Wimbledon tournament despite hearing her diagnosis while in the qualifiers.

Duval made a splash on the Tour with a First Round win over Sam Stosur at the US Open last year and the feeling is that her good health will assist her in this off-court battle and see her make a full recovery. It just doesn't seem fair, but is one of those things you read about a lot- hopefully we will see Duval make a full recovery and a return to the court in the very near future.

Petra Kvitova - 1.5 games v Eugenie Bouchard: A look at the players that each of these two have beaten to reach the Wimbledon Final would suggest Eugenie Bouchard has had the more difficult route, although she will be very glad she didn't have to face either Serena Williams or Maria Sharapova as she was seeded to.

Bouchard already has two Grand Slam Semi Finals under her belt in 2014 as her rapid rise to prominence shows no sign of coming to an end and the young Canadian managed to move an extra step further by reaching the Final here.

She hits the ball very aggressively and that was always going to make her a threat on the surface, although coming up against the Wimbledon Champion of 2011 may prove an obstacle too far for Bouchard to negotiate.

Petra Kvitova has dropped one set on the way to the Wimbledon Final this year and it is clear that the grass courts are very much her favoured surface with her most consistent results coming at Wimbledon in recent years. Kvitova has the big serve and heavy groundstrokes that really take hold on the grass and she may have an edge in both of those departments that leads to a second Grand Slam title on Centre Court.

I do expect Bouchard to give Kvitova problems with her own aggressive style and this may become a 'first strike' kind of tennis match with the player getting ahead in the rally unlikely to cede the momentum to the other. However, I think Kvitova is able to set up a few more easy points on serve than Bouchard and that may be the difference maker in what figures to be a close match.

The up and downs within matches makes Kvitova a dangerous player to back at times, but Bouchard has to deal with the occasion and I just feel the Czech player has the experience of winning a title here which will be put to good use. I do think there is every chance we see three sets in this women's Final, but one where Kvitova may come through 64, 46, 63.

MY PICK: Petra Kvitova - 1.5 Games @ 1.92 Pinnacle (2 Units)

Wimbledon Update: 37-28, + 21.10 Units (121 Units Staked, + 17.44% Yield)
