NBA Picks November 2017 (November 1-5)

We have moved onto another week and the first set of November NBA Picks will in this thread which cover the first week of the November Picks.

October proved to be an up and down month but one that returned a positive and I will be hoping that can be built upon in the month ahead.

Wednesday 1st November
Atlanta Hawks @ Philadelphia 76ers Pick: All you have heard from the Philadelphia 76ers over the last twelve months is 'Trust The Process' and this is a team who feel they have the quality to make it back to the Play Offs in the Eastern Conference. Joel Embiid gave the home fans someone to really back, but he is well supported by other talented youngsters as both Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz have come in and had an impact.

Fultz is absent for this one as he has been given a chance to rest some nagging injuries, but that has not prevented Philadelphia winning back to back road games at Dallas and Houston ahead of this one.

While the 76ers may be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference, it could be said that the Atlanta Hawks are one of the worst. This is a team that have threatened to blow up the roster a number of times over the last eighteen months, but now they have allowed Paul Millsap, Dwight Howard and Tim Hardaway to move on and focus on a younger core of players.

Once that decision was made, it was clear that the Hawks would have a tough 2017/18 season and I have little doubt that is going to be the case over the next several months. Losing some of the names they have means the Atlanta Offense is not as efficient as it would like to be at the beginning of this season and the 76ers should be the superior team.

Philadelphia also have the size to hurt the Hawks on the boards at both ends of the court and that can be a huge part of a reason a team are able to move clear of another. There is still work for the 76ers to do Defensively to really reach their full potential, but they look strong enough on both ends of the court to take this game away from their visitors.

The Hawks have dominated this series recently, but that may not be the case now as the teams looked to have flipped which one is the one going through a transition and which one is ready to challenge for the Play Offs. Atlanta have a poor record coming in off a loss by double digits at home and I like the way Philadelphia have played against those teams they should be beating.

It is a big spread, but I think it is worth laying the points with the home team here and looking for them to cover this number.

Thursday 2nd November
Golden State Warriors @ San Antonio Spurs Pick: This is not the time of the season to worry about the consistency in the performances, but the Golden State Warriors hold themselves to a much higher standard than most teams. Steve Kerr admitted he was the happiest last time out when the Warriors blew out the Los Angeles Clippers on the road and now they are strong favourites to win this one too.

That isn't a big surprise when you think they are facing a San Antonio Spurs team who have both Tony Parker and Kahwi Leonard on the sidelines and not expected to return in time for this one. Those absences have begun to be felt by the Spurs as they return home from a four game road trip having lost their last three games in a row.

San Antonio have just begun to have a few struggles Offensively which have shown up without Parker and Leonard and that is an issue when you are ready to come up against the Golden State Warriors. The one element that the Warriors have remained consistent with is their own Offensive performances but it has not all been smooth sailing for the Warriors.

Kerr will be expecting Golden State to be much better Defensively over the course of the season and that is a clear area in which they can make improvements. There have been signs that is coming, but Golden State are still giving up 112 points per game over their last five games and that is not something you would associate with this team.

However it is the Spurs who have also struggled on the Defensive side of the court and I think that is where the Warriors will find a way to pull away for a double digit win. Golden State can match the San Antonio energy on the boards and the Warriors have shown they are the superior three point shooting team which all adds up to another solid win for them on the road in Texas.

You can't disguise Golden State as being a poor team to back so far this season as they are 2-6 against the spread to open the season, but facing a potential contender in the Western Conference should give them plenty of motivation. The Warriors are 4-1 against the spread in their last five games in San Antonio and the favourite is 9-4 against the spread in the last thirteen in the series.
